The concept of Hauora encompasses physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions of health and this concept is recognized by the World Health Organization.
Hauora is a Māori philosophy of health unique to New Zealand. It compares Hauora to a whare where each wall in the whare represents different dimensions:
taha wairua (the spiritual side); taha hinengaro (thoughts and feelings); taha tinana (the physical side); and taha whānau (family). All four dimensions are necessary for strength and symmetry.
